1 Who are the surgeons at KEIT?

The surgical team at KEIT Day Hospital includes medical specialists from several surgical disciplines:

  • Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery

  • Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)

  • Oral and maxillofacial surgery

This multidisciplinary structure allows the clinic to select a surgeon according to the type of procedure, the patient's anatomy and clinical needs, and the specialist's experience in the relevant operation.

Our surgeons work alongside specialists in anaesthesia and intensive care, medical and nursing staff, and dedicated patient coordinators to provide organised care before, during and after surgery.

2 Qualifications, Good Standing and professional licence

Before a surgeon joins the KEIT Day Hospital team, we verify their qualifications, professional registration and supporting documentation. This includes checking:

  • Specialist qualification: Relevant to the surgical discipline and procedures the surgeon will perform at the clinic.

  • Registration with the relevant medical regulatory body: To confirm that the surgeon holds valid professional registration.

  • Certificate of Good Standing: Issued by the relevant authority to confirm the doctor's professional status and disciplinary standing, within the scope of the information certified.

  • Professional indemnity insurance: To verify that the surgeon has appropriate insurance coverage for their clinical activities.

  • Licence to practise medicine in Albania: Issued by the Albanian Order of Physicians (Urdhri i Mjekëve të Shqipërisë).

For Italian surgeons, we also verify registration with the relevant territorial Order of Physicians and Dentists, which can be checked through the FNOMCeO National Register (Federazione Nazionale degli Ordini dei Medici Chirurghi e degli Odontoiatri).

Document verification is the first stage of the selection process, followed by an assessment of the surgeon's clinical experience and practical surgical skills.

3 How do we select our surgeons?

The selection of surgeons at KEIT Day Hospital requires a minimum of 200 documented surgical procedures in their respective area of specialisation. The process includes verification of surgical experience and the relevance of previously performed procedures to the activities planned at the clinic. Technical skills, surgical planning abilities and collaboration with the medical team are also assessed.

Every new surgeon undergoes an initial assessment by the clinic's scientific director and founder, Dr Skerdi Faria, and the scientific committee to verify their practical skills and compliance with KEIT Day Hospital's clinical standards. The assessment continues throughout their professional activity at the facility through reviews of documentation relating to performed procedures and regular clinical discussion meetings.

4 Who will be the surgeon performing my operation?

The surgeon is selected according to the characteristics of your clinical case, considering the type of procedure, anatomy, aesthetic goals, any previous operations and the specialist's experience in the required procedure. At KEIT Day Hospital, the surgeon is assigned from among the professionals selected by the clinic, with the aim of identifying the specialist most suited to the patient's needs.

Before the operation, you will meet the surgeon who will perform your procedure and will be able to discuss the surgical plan, realistically achievable results, potential risks and any questions directly with them. KEIT Day Hospital remains your point of contact for coordinating the surgical process and the care provided before and after the operation.

5 An assessment record for every surgical procedure

After each operation, KEIT Day Hospital completes an individual surgical assessment record for the patient. The scientific committee reviews photographic documentation taken before and after surgery, assessing the technical and aesthetic aspects that can be observed immediately following the procedure.

The assessment includes:

  • Quality and precision of sutures, where applicable.

  • Surgical techniques used during the procedure.

  • Immediately observable aesthetic aspects.

  • Consistency between the immediate surgical outcome and the agreed surgical plan.

The record makes it possible to document the aspects assessed and monitor each surgeon's activity over time. This initial assessment does not represent a judgement of the final result, which can only be evaluated through follow-up and the progression of healing.

6 Continuing professional development and surgical practice

All surgeons working at KEIT Day Hospital are required to document their continuing professional development. The clinic periodically requests certificates of attendance at specialist courses, training activities and records of completed professional education credits. For Italian surgeons, who make up the majority of the team, verification also includes ECM (Educazione Continua in Medicina – Continuing Medical Education) credits and the relevant documentation.

External education through specialist courses and scientific conferences is complemented by internal training on KEIT Day Hospital's clinical protocols, helping surgeons maintain up-to-date skills and follow consistent operating procedures. With more than 2,500 surgical procedures performed at the facility each year, KEIT Day Hospital provides an environment of continuous clinical practice and professional collaboration.

7 Monthly meetings with surgeons

KEIT Day Hospital organises monthly meetings with its surgeons to discuss:

  • Surgical techniques and experience gained through clinical practice.

  • Proposals for improving procedures and workflow organisation.

  • Training needs and continuing professional development opportunities.

  • Updates to clinical and operating protocols.

  • Surgical activity and aspects requiring further assessment.

These meetings encourage the exchange of professional experience and help identify opportunities to improve surgical practice and team organisation.

8 What language can I use to communicate with the surgeon?

You can communicate directly with KEIT Day Hospital surgeons in Italian or English. For patients who speak other languages, the clinic provides multilingual staff and a dedicated coordinator who facilitates communication with the medical team. Medical assessments, clinical explanations and treatment decisions remain the responsibility of healthcare professionals, while the coordinator provides language and organisational support.

9 Who looks after patients after surgery?

After surgery, KEIT Day Hospital continues to support patients through its medical team and a dedicated coordinator, who remains in contact after you return home and helps organise postoperative follow-up appointments.

The follow-up programme includes assessments at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after surgery, according to the surgeon's instructions and your individual clinical needs.

Follow-up appointments may take place:

  • In Tirana: At KEIT Day Hospital.

  • In Italy: With a surgeon from our team, depending on their location and availability and subject to prior coordination with the clinic.

Clinical assessments remain the responsibility of healthcare professionals, while your coordinator facilitates communication and appointment arrangements.

10 How is postoperative follow-up managed after returning to the UK?

After returning to the UK, patients remain in contact with the medical team at KEIT Day Hospital through a dedicated coordinator who helps organise postoperative follow-up appointments and facilitates communication with the surgeon. Follow-up consultations can be conducted online when the patient's clinical condition allows an appropriate remote assessment. If an in-person examination, wound care or additional treatment is required, patients may need to return to KEIT Day Hospital in Tirana, Albania. The medical team evaluates each case individually and provides instructions based on the procedure performed, the progress of recovery and the patient's clinical needs.

11 What happens if a complication develops after I return home?

If a complication occurs after you return home, KEIT Day Hospital receives your report and coordinates the appropriate care pathway. The medical team assesses the situation and advises on the examinations or treatment required according to your clinical condition.

If the complication requires further investigations, hospital care or additional procedures, the medical team provides guidance on the most appropriate course of action. If you experience severe symptoms or a medical emergency, seek immediate assistance from local emergency services rather than waiting for a remote assessment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How can I check whether a surgeon is qualified to perform my procedure?

To assess a surgeon's qualifications, it is important to verify their specialist training, professional registration and experience with the specific procedure. KEIT Day Hospital checks these requirements before admitting a surgeon to its team and requires at least 200 documented surgical procedures within the relevant area of specialisation. For Italian surgeons, professional registration can also be checked through the FNOMCeO National Register.

Can a surgeon who specialises in rhinoplasty perform other aesthetic procedures?

This depends on the surgeon's training, skills and clinical experience. Not all surgeons perform the same procedures, and holding a medical specialisation does not necessarily mean having equivalent experience in every type of operation. KEIT Day Hospital assesses each surgeon's specific expertise in relation to the required procedure, taking the patient's anatomical and clinical characteristics into account.

Can I meet the surgeon and discuss my desired results before the operation?

Yes. Before surgery, you can speak directly with the surgeon who will perform your procedure, discuss your aesthetic goals and receive an explanation of the surgical plan. The consultation also covers realistically achievable results, the limitations of the procedure, potential risks and recovery instructions. This discussion is essential for establishing realistic expectations and making an informed decision.

Can I undergo revision surgery if I previously had an operation elsewhere?

Revision surgery may be considered even if your previous procedure was performed at another clinic. However, whether another operation is appropriate depends on the condition of the tissues, the outcome of the previous surgery and the results that can realistically be achieved. The surgeon must examine your case, review the available medical records and determine whether further surgery is indicated, considering the specific risks and limitations of revision procedures.

What happens if I need surgical assistance after returning to the UK?

KEIT Day Hospital maintains contact with patients after they return home and coordinates postoperative care. When clinically appropriate, follow-up consultations can be conducted online. If an in-person examination, wound care or additional surgical treatment is necessary, patients may need to return to KEIT Day Hospital in Tirana, Albania. If symptoms require urgent medical attention, patients should seek immediate assistance from local healthcare services in the UK rather than waiting for a remote consultation.
